In recent years, China has issued a series of policies and legal documents explicitly proposing to support the promotion and use of degradable materials, including the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Waste revised and passed by the Standing Committee of the NPC on April 29 this year, encouraging the promotion and application of recyclable and degradable substitute products.


As for the reason for clinging to the proposal to promote the development of biodegradable materials industry, Zheng Yueming said that waste plastic packaging scattered in urban areas, scenic tourist areas, water bodies and roads not only affected the landscape and caused visual pollution, but also caused potential harm to the ecological environment due to its difficulty in degradation. Biodegradable materials can be degraded into carbon dioxide and water by microorganisms in a specific industrial composting environment, which will not form pressure on the ecological environment and is a good way to solve White Pollution. However, at this stage, the development of China’s biodegradable material industry still faces many bottlenecks, which are mainly manifested in the immature production technology and the lack of large-scale production. Compared with traditional plastics, the cost is relatively high and the popularization and application are limited.

Zheng Yueming hopes that the country will further increase its support for the biodegradable material industry. He suggests that enterprises should be encouraged to carry out key research on synthesis, modification and recycling technologies to support the construction of industrial demonstration devices, and to support and encourage enterprises to carry out technological research and industrialization by means of special fund support, tax incentives and the like; After the mass production of degradable biological materials, it should be firstly popularized and applied in the field of disposable shopping bags and disposable packaging. In addition, financial markets will be strengthened to support the development of biodegradable materials industry, and relevant high-quality enterprises will be supported to be listed on the STAR Market.
